I blame Google (and other Internet search engines) for killing the ability (or desire) to suspend disbelief when it comes to sci-fi.

Back in the 70s and 80s (when sci-fi and horror were ruling the day), your only chance to look "behind the curtain" on these films was to read fan magazines, or maybe catch a TV special (there were a number of them about Star Wars - for those who remember). Also, if you wanted to "dig deep" into the science in these films (for the purposes of questioning it or shitting on it), you had to do just that - go digging.

Today, with just a few clicks and keywords, you can disassemble any movie (or, find a youtuber or blogger that has already done it) within about 60 seconds.

It sucks.
