Because medical experts stated it numerous times. People just choose to ignore it. There was no indication medical treatment would help his condition.

Again, give me an actual reason that the family shouldn't be allowed to use private funds to try to save their child.

There were other medical experts that said it was worth a shot. Everyone knows that it would have been a highly experimental treatment with a very low chance at success. That was no reason for the parents to be denied an attempt at it. If the parents decided to end Charlie's suffering I can understand that. But it is no place for the government to step in and make this decision.
