Because if there is no way to give him a healthy life, it would be just as cruel to move him, and allow someone to play Dr on him. Just keeping him alive on a ventilator is just as bad.

By the time litigation and red tape had played out for five months and the US Dr was able to see and evaluate him. Saying definitively that in a shorter 2-3 month window when everything was in place that progression would have been to that point is unfair and unsubstantiated. The UK government and single payer system is culpable here, and stating that giving the government control over one's healthcare and life isn't dangerous would be a difficult stance to take for any supporter of the single payer system.
