I have no problem with the Audubon Bridge. If Louisiana built more infrastructure in advance of critical need (when costs and political bullshite is much more manageable), then we wouldn't be facing the insurmountable problems that Baton Rouge faces today. In many other states, you will find massive, over-built highways on the edges of the cities that can accommodate growth far into the future. You can find roads that were built for expansion with rights-of-way already acquired and engineered for future growth.
Louisiana and Baton Rouge surely have massive problems with too few roads and bridges. I am not about to complain that we have too many of them anywhere in this state.
But here, tax dollars have been and are still being wasted, and planning and spending has focused on covering up past problems instead of preventing future problems.
