No,they are assholes. I have never in my life heard anyone refer to anyone in the NE as a "hippie".
By every survey taken since the beginning of time they are much ruder on average than southerners.

Congrats on missing the point entirely. And frankly, proving my point.
"Not all southerners are racists, ignorant, bigots, etc." but these stupid polls all generalize the area. (Which by the way I completely agree that generalizing an entire area of the country is wrong)
And then you respond with an explanation of why there is empirical proof that northeasterners are assholes.
