Reminds me of a joke.
The city of Chicago needed to build some stairs at a city park, so they sought out three bids.
A contractor from Louisiana came in, measured, calculated the materials, and the estimated time, and said we can build the stairs for $1000.
A contractor from Georgia came in, measured, calculated the materials and the estimated time, and said they could build the stairs for $1500.
A contractor from Chicago doesn't measure or calculate, and quotes the city $65,000.
The department head is irate. $65,000? What the hell? You didn't even measure anything. How can it be so expensive. The contractor says, $32,000 for you, $32,000 for me, and we'll pay the guy from Louisiana to do it!
That's how government spends money.

Last Summer as a board member of a youth sports complex on a public park the State of Louisiana bidding requirements limited the youth association to only 3 contractors to build a new concession stand. All the engineered drawings were up to all current codes. Of the 3 bids received the lowest bid was $242,000. As a lessee of the park we were able to skirt the rules and had it build by a private contractor as per the bid specs for $68,000. That is government waste.

Why didn't he sawzall the barrier on the road to provide a nice path at the top
I'm assuming he was halted before he got to pour his concrete

I know that all governments waste money, but I bet their plans for those stairs was a hell of a lot nicer than that rickety shite.

We are all joking about the absurd $65,000 estimate for the stairs, but in reality some contractor was (is?) gonna make about a $60,000 profit on those stairs, which equates to stealing $60,000 in government money.
We don't laugh at those that abuse the welfare system, nor should we really laugh at those that abuse the contractor side.
