I had an offer sent to me in hand from a dealer in Houston TX. They had the MSRP and the highest and lowest paid for that same vehicle in a 250 mile radius. I was able to get them to match the lowest amount paid for that vehicle which was almost 5k from the sticker price. I had a few things going for me though it was October so they needed to start making room for the new year vehicles, I had 12k to put down, and my credit score was 790ish and I already approved for the loan with my bank that more than covered the rest. What is you financial situation? Do you have anything to put down? Credit Score? Pre Approval? Are you limiting your search to a local smaller market? There are so many variables that come into play.

Didn't read every post so maybe someone already mentioned this but the wife and I did this the last 3 vehicles we've bought.
Figure out what vehicle you want and Find two competing dealerships and wait until the last week of the month. Email them both internet sales offices and see what price you can get, then get them both in a bidding war. Eventsully one will bow out and you know you probably got the best possible deal on your new ride
