Guys...save yourselves the constant headache and buy a trimmer/mower. They are almost like having a bush hog on the back of a tractor but can get in close and do a good job around buildings, fences, etc. I've let a few people use mine and they bought their own.

When I bought my house I went cheap and got a troybilt weedeater that could take other attachments. Tried an aftermarket quick feed head for it because I was tired of stringing and it was terrible. Most attachments were also hot garbage.
Bought a stihl a couple years back and it was the best thing I could've done. All of their products work seamlessly, including the poly blade head and the auto cut quick stringing head.

Check out Echo's Speed Feed head, assuming that's not the one you're replacing. I like it better than any universal model I've tried.
I believe this is the one I bought for my Stihl after market. Easiest thing in the world to use. You just cut off about 10 feet of line, thread it through the head it until about 6 inches is left on each side. When you need more line, just tap the head on the ground. I have had it for over 3 years and it works great. If in Baton Rouge, I bought it at B&D on Old Hammond.

I have a grass gator from Walmart. Works really well.

Are you fricking kidding me? The echo easy feedhead is the best thing to hit the market. I've put those thing through the paces. What the hell are you beating up with your weed eater?
