How do we know Smart won't be one and done?
It's actually looking more and more like Javonte will not be a one and done recruit. For starters, Most analysts have stated that the entire class of 2018 lacks a one and done level talent at the PG position and Javonte isn't even the #1 PG in n the class of 2018. Also unlike one and done PGs such as John Wall or De'Aaron Fox Javonte isn't an elite physical specimen at the PG position. He's got very good size for a PG but he doesn't possess blazing speed or jaw-dropping athleticism. Also unlike Lonzo Ball or Kyrie Irving, he isn't an elite level playmaker or shooter either (Yes Kyrie was an elite playmaker and shooter in high school and college. He was compared to Chris Paul at one point). Right now Javonte is more in the mold of an Andrew Harrison, a big bodied scoring PG who uses his size to bully other smaller guards on his drives to the rim. Javonte could potentially be a one and done still but he would need to have an OUTSTANDING freshman year ala D'Angelo Russell (Who was a first team All-American as a freshman) and prove that he has a consistent jumpshot and the ability to make his teammates better.
