Sacramento - Too much drama with club name, etc. I think they would be ideal for MLS, but I think Don wants San Diego, especially with Landon Donovan helping out. No way the state of California gets 5 clubs.
St Louis - The stadium deal did not get votes. St Louis to MLS is dead. There have been rumors of a renewed effort, but I don't see it happening.
TB/St Pete - They have the funding, but if David Beckham FC does in fact happen, then it is the death knell for TB. However, of the Beckham deal falls through I think TB has a great shot of taking their spot.
Nashville - Has the funding. State and county are willing to play ball on the stadium. Is seen as an "it" city. The problem is we don't even have the USL club up and running. We have no ide what that would look like. We don't even have a stadium plan in place. We *think* we know where we want to put it, but until the stadium plans come out we just don't know.
San Antonio - Yes, it's a big soccer city but it's not happening.
Raleigh - Not happening.
Cincinnati - it's going to happen. I think they will be 25. They essentially take St Louis's spot.
Charlotte - Dead
Indianapolis - On life support
Phoenix - We'll see if they can get a climate controlled stadium plan happening. But I still see them as a long shot, even though they seem to be on the rise.
San Diego - Appears to be a match made in heaven. I don't think they will be fast enough to be 25 or 26. If Sacramento isn't announced for 25 or 26, then SD is pretty much assured at 27 or 28.
Detroit - The wild card. Garber is in love with Gilbert and Gores. But they are having stadium issues as well, even though they are doing all they can to buy out the land that currently has a half built jail. The whole story is weird. Couple all this with the fact that the fans of the current club, Detroit City FC (NPSL) are very united, and very anti-MLS. The whole situation is very bizarre.
What I want:
Miami or TB/St Pete. I don't care which. Whichever one makes it will become Orlando's rival.
Nashville and Cincinnati in the same expansion. You get the Columbus-Cincinnati rivalry, and Nashville-Atlanta rivalry.
The last two: San Diego + don't care.

I am so giddy for Cincy to get a MLS team, but they need a stadium. Popular opinion is they'll build it across the river in Newport, KY. Not sure where they would put it in the city.

1) STL is the MLS #1 target. if they want stl they cant have stl, but under a new structured deal.
2)2.8 million people live st louis metro. 1.1 million live in st louis county, and 300k live in the city of st louis. Only the city got to vote. IF the County got to vote, id say soccer wins 80/20 if not higher. Our "city" is poor, has bad schools, and high crime. That's why it didnt pass, the residence felt the money could help their shitty city. A new deal with MLS would include the County, and their money, which they have plenty of.
The fact that 300k people got to vote for something that impacts 2.8 million was already stupid and ridiculous. and the MLS is aware of after-the-fact.
Also, yesterday was the 67 year anniversary of when St Louis(USMNT) beat England 1-0 in the 1950 world cup. One of the finest days in St Louis, and the united states soccer history.
