Connecting iPhone to AV on car DVD player

I'm trying to connect my iPhone 7 to my Pioneer AVH-X2800BS to mirror the iphone. I'm using an HDMI to Composite cable which is plugged into the AV input on the car DVD. The HDMI end is connected to an Apple HDMI adapter. I made sure to turn on the AV input on the DVD player. The AV screen shows up, but what is on my iphone does not display on the DVD screen. Has anyone accomplished this before?

Can you post what you are using here?
You can't just use a passive cable to convert HDMI to composite, you need an active device that plugs into electricity and actively converts the digital HDMI signal to composite. So I am confused about what you mean by "HDMI to Composite cable"

They are the same thing... composite video is the yellow RCA cable.

i thought he said component
yea let's figure out what adapter cable it is and we can go from there.
also, go try it on a TV in your house and see if it works there.

LINK
Like others have said, you're going to need power to do the conversion. You should have read the walmart customer reviews-- not one said they worked.
The link above is from Amazon and its the type of thing you are looking for, but I have no idea if its good or not--you'd need to do some research

Is there a store in the Baton Rouge area that might have what I need?

I mean, you could try a radio shack or a best buy.
But, by the time I replied to this, you could have already ordered and had in your possession one from Amazon. Sorry!
