I do not have a concealed carry because we have open carry and can carry in our cars. I stress safety, train and reinforce safety with friends and family regularly. I don't shoot enough, but am competent. I read laws in any state where I have a weapon and if stopped by a police officer always make him aware of a weapon on my person and have hands in view. I have pulled my weapon once in 30 plus years of carrying, never fired.
So yes its a right we have as Americans and a great responsibility that I take very seriously. I thank my father for teaching me how to act around weapons and to handle them like they are supposed to be handled. Never one negative incident in all these years.

Great post and exactly what I feel should be the focus for all public awareness. I was looking to find what ages kids were started in classes. A couple of mine are still young. I already started my youngest boy handling / shooting with BB's. My very youngest is only 10 but would like to start her in classes. Has anyone had a girl this young shooting?
...and times when my Dad was teaching me to shoot are some of the most vivid and complete memories as a kid. I'll never forget his demeanor change to stern and his dead serious eye contact as he explained why we must gives guns the utmost respect for our own good.
