quote:

It is the amount of government "protection" that is debatable.

But it's not debatable. Every single protection granted by the government, every single one, is only possible because we the people authorize it. We do so by voting. The collective will of the people is the sole reason why legislatures are in their position, and they get there because they believe in things that are common to the constituency of their respective districts/wards. If you don't like the way things are going, persuade enough people to agree with you and get people in office that more closely resemble your ideals. The fact that Donald Trump is president right now is possibly the single greatest example of this.

However, what I dislike even more is a Hilary-esque government entity (local, parish, state, federal) telling me, "I'm the government. I know better than you what is best for you. Leave it to us to make your choices."

Again, your forgetting the required precedent fact that is absolutely necessary before the government can take any action. They must be put there by the people.

If people don't like this then I don't know what to tell them. Before even talking about any rights, liberties, laws, restrictions, or privileges with respect to our society and the foundation of our country, you must first recognize that the single most basic and ever present ideal with regards to our country is the idea of a democratic republic.

Well, as long as you believe that, then I'm happy for you.

I'm sure all of our lawmakers have our best interests at heart 100% of the time. I'm glad to know that they speak through us and for us.
