Umps varying strike zones are indeed part of the game. In addition to adjusting, many MLB teams and pitchers/catchers scout umps too.
If it's part of the game, just like your pitcher being off or breaking ball not breaking, or any other host of variables you prepare for it.
Yeah, it might be hard for a college team to scout umps in a NCAA tournament. Not impossible. And there's always "in-game scouting", which if you don't adjust why scout.
Nolan Ryan kept his own personal database on umps. Varitek and Wakefield did the same. If you can limit the influence of variables, which different ump's zones are, then you do it. If you don't, shame on you. You don't blame the variable.
