I kind of disagree. I think ultimately the strike zone should remain in human hands. There's something about the judgment that just makes the game more dynamic. It causes pitchers and catchers and batters to have to change their strategies in game. If it was computer monitored the game would become too stale.

That said, baseball is a miserable sport to watch when the umpire has a small strike zone.

If the judgement isn't consistent (as it is in this game) then it is an unfair variable. I happen to think sports should have no other variables other than the ability and execution of each athlete.

This is an unnecessary variable that strays from allowing the best players/ teams from winning. Some pitchers/ teams may be more successful with a proper strike zone, while others may have an advantage with a larger strike zone. It needs to be consistent. It's analogous to having the width of the field vary from game to game or possession to possession in football.

Do you watch baseball to see what the ump is going to call?

I bet it's miserable when a game is ruined by a stupid ump (it has certainly happen to LSU a time or two).
