Here's my issue with you and BamaAtl.

I don't deny you guys have large hearts. BamaAtl serves hundreds of impoverished inner city black atlantans every year. I'm sure you do very nice things as well.

My issue is that you guys disqualify anyone from being "empathetic" or "compassionate" if they disagree with the political solutions that you guys favor.

Case in point: me.

I do not like to speak highly of myself often, but I am involved with a south orange county branch of miracle league, an organization that provides mentally challenged and severely disabled children a chance to play baseball. For the past 6 months, I have been working with the city of mission viejo and private companies/orgs to provide funds for the construction of a special baseball field for the kids of miracle league to play at. We are almost there in getting it completed.

But under your worldview, I am an immoral, hateful, and atrocious person because I do not support using the government to procure those funds for the building of that special baseball field.

How would you like it, haughton99, if I came up to you and asked if you were a christian? And if you replied no, then I make the blanket statement "you lack morality and a adequate ethical compass". You'd rightly be very upset at that proclamation, because being a christian is not the only avenue for being moral.

Yet according to you and BamaAtl, the only way to be empathetic in this world is to support the government provision of charity.

It's an unfair and deeply close-minded way to judge people.

My rebuttal is that you don't have any political solution that will help those in need, or at least have failed to articulate one beyond "frick them, not my problem."

There are some good conservative programs to help the needy (See: the ACA), but Republicans aren't proposing those. They're proposing slashing everything to give tax cuts to the wealthy under the failed policy of trickle-down economics.

And to your baseball program: excellent work! But that's a minor issue on the scope of 23M losing their health insurance. There aren't enough private funds to cover something of this magnitude.

Fair point. I'll argue that all right wing people aren't the same. There are people like yourself that support private charity and believe that a gov't safety net should be very limited. I get that and those that think like that and put their time and money to work actually helping those charities shouldn't be disparaged.

There is a totally different wing of the far right that are just selfish and borderline evil. They couldn't care less if people are starving all around them if they are well fed. They lack any empathy whatsoever. I think Centinel and some others (see my sig quote - its real) fall into that category.

I would have claimed that you would be a hateful immoral atrocious person IF you wanted taxpayers to have to support it.
