Because NO has much more pressing issues that are being ignored. 13 people shot in a single day 2 weekends ago. Streets are in disrepair. Police dept is undermanned. The jail is under a federal consent decree due to mismanagement. But we're worried about repainting crosswalks and removing 100 year old statues

I mean to be fair, it would probably take a few hours to paint some crosswalks and would probably cost less than $1.5k. You can't compare the problems that NOLA is facing with this.

Every drop in the bucket counts. I have no issues with this in theory, but public funds don't need to be going to it at this moment.

This is New Orleans we are talking about.

President Bitch Landrieu will drag this out for a few weeks at least to help raise his national profile. Then it will cost at least half a mil cause Bubba's cousin gotta get paid.

You obviously do not know how gov't contracts work, especially in Nola.

They'll figure out a way to make it cost $100k, take 2 months, and inconvenience everyone in the area.

I have no problem with painting the streets whatever color they want, but don't waste tax dollars on it. I mean, Nola is already one of the most gay friendly cities in the country, why do we need rainbow streets proclaiming it?
