Game of Thrones is the best thing I've ever watched. I did read the books first, so maybe that helped, but plenty of non-book readers would tell you the same thing.

Honestly, I'm glad I never read the books. The story has many unexpected twists and turns, and for me, experiencing them completely blind has been part of the fun.

I read LOTR quite a few times before they made the movies. Gandalf's fight with the Balrog on the bridge, Boromir's betrayal and redemption in death, those were great scenes, but I knew they were coming. BTW, that's part of the reason I picked Star Wars over LOTR in the other thread, as I already knew the story for one, I didn't the first time I saw the other. I ASSUMED things would happen, but didn't know it was coming for sure, and was put off when things didn't happen as "they should".

You have similar types of scenes in Game of Thrones, where knowing the twist is coming, or having a scene not play out as you knew it was written, would probably detract from the fun.
