Taking the family up there in late July to The Grand Hotel.
Never been, but looks beautiful.
Any TB ballers got anything on this?
Thx

Very bizarre. Just yesterday, my secretary was telling me she was going on vacation to this place next week. I have never heard of it and considered starting a thread to ask. One day later, here we are. Seemed Branson, MO-ish to me from looking online.

It's a true step back in time. The only ways to get to the island are by ferry or by plane. No cars allowed; transportation is by bicycle or horse.
The Grand Hotel is gorgeous with a huge porch and perfect views of the Straits of Mackinac. There is a circa-1800's fort at the top of the tallest hill on the island that has been preserved and frequently has reenactments and cannon firing. There is a downtown area that is very touristy but has plenty of bars, restaurants, and stores. There are several museums and a butterfly garden as well.
My favorite thing to do is to rent a bike and bike around the perimeter of the island, stopping at Arch Rock for pics.
All that being said, I'd probably max out at about 3 days on the island before going back to the mainland. Stay somewhere like Bay Harbor or Harbor Springs for more action.

I'm from an hour south of there. They are big on fudge! The island is full of bikes and horse shite.
If you have a car rental on mainland take a drive to tahquamenon falls or pictures rocks in the up.

Been a while since I was there:
Positives: beautiful, isolated
Negatives: smells like a zoo (from all the horses) and the only place I've ever been where the people (guessing most were tourists) were noticeably unfriendly.
