Beth Torina had really ONE year when she had the team to win it all, and she didn't, not because of her coaching, but because the team did not play well, did not run bases right. Defense struggled. It happens.
Beth didn't lose the WCWS for those girls.

Advice for Beth Torina.... reject the criticism of those who point our your “failures” but never applaud your accomplishments. If a critic wont give you credit, reject his criticism.

Some come on here with an agenda, and though they deny it, they have a set of pre-conditioned responses, and talking points to push whatever it is they want. They have the darnedest time posting without mentioning their agenda.

Ignorance is bliss.. I dont know any of the players or their parents, and do not have access to privy information. I just want to see LSU softball succeed, and reach potential. I can only go by what I see, and nobody tells me the team's secrets and stories.

Some call for Howard to be fired. I am more of a batting coach than a head coach. I watched Howard's videos on YouTube. Nothing outside of the mainstream. Talking about gripping a bat, about weight distribution. I didnt see anything wrong, and though they say he advocates putting too much weight on the front foot, I saw Falcon in the video, and she had a beautiful swing. I didnt see anything wrong with what he was teaching her.

I have a few friends who have sons and daughters in travel ball. These kids have been coached extensively, and have gone to clinics and private instruction.

Many parents are very protective of the way their kids hit. They view a coach as being “intrusive” if he tries to change what the kids have always been doing. I watched Caccamise's video on YouTube, seems to be a good player but that batting style... not for me. I wouldnt have my daughter batting like that. See, though, she comes to LSU and if Howard says, “This is not going to work on the college level” or “You are losing power and adjustability with the way you bat”.....then there is a problem. But..if what she is doing actually works, let her go. She has been very successful so far.

Someone said Jaquish's father was her coach. (Must be a really good coach). So, Howard is not able to do much more than a few helpful hints...is that how it works? He doesnt want to be intrusive, and that hesitation may make it look like he just lets the kids do what they want. He talks to the players, I have seen him do it. Its not like he dont care. I think in a sense his hands may be tied.

Despite all of that, can you imagine what Springfield and Doyle can do at the plate,, once they get fixed? Doyle is a rock solid ball player, if she can fill the third spot in the lineup and play well, we wont miss Sahvannah as much.

Going to be interesting to see what LSU does next year. The work order has been placed, though. LSU cant have another dismal year at the plate. Looking forward to it. Eight more months and it starts all over again. Going to be interesting.

You're right. We hit better, cut down on errors...we will be fine. Hitting is our weakness but we have a TON of potential. I think we miss SJ the most. But honestly towards the end, she hit, but it was the younger players coming through more frequently than Bailey and Connie. I'm not saying we won't miss them, but I believe our middle infield could get stronger and so can our hitting. Our pitching is there. We will miss Syd, but we have Carley, Allie, and MB, along with another freshman coming in. As long as this so called "discord" calms down, we will be fine.

Most teams with that size roster, 20 players, have some strife. What makes the difference is most teams know to keep it in the locker room, but kids go home and tell their parents, and their parents tell their relatives, and once its third or fourth hand information, it leaks out.

One thing i would encourage Beth to do is try to play more players when she can. The mid-week games are a chance to get the reserves in. Nothing wrong with pulling a starter in the fifth inning if we got a sizable lead.

If the reserves behind the starter are too risky to play, they probably shouldnt be on the team.

A lot of football teams use their reserves for special teams, and, on top of giving the starters a rest and lessening the possibility of injury, it also makes the reserves feel like they contribute to the game, and are part of the team.

Yup but it's a common now everywhere, even for the elite players coming out travel ball. A lot of things are fine tuned, I don't mind playing to a players natural strengths or what they've always done but I think at this level adjustments are practically needed in most players. OU does have some really gifted players but even for players like Romero and Knighten and even Pendley, I saw some big technical differences in their overall hitting form. It's molded and enhanced in many ways, I really think we need to do that.

Romero dont put up her sisters numbers but the girl does not strike out. Excellent player.

All those girls elevate a certain way and keep that level throughout the swing. Somebody in Oklahoma knows what they doing.

JT Gasso is relatively new, been on staff for the last two years, extremely young and highly respected. They definitely look pretty damn good the last two years. What he's done with a lot of these young players is nothing short of amazing.

This is my look on 2018 LSU softball

LF: Aaliyah Andrews
CF: Emily Griggs
RF: Taryn Antoine
1B: Sydney Springfield or Amanda Doyle
2B: Nicky Dawson? Shemiah Sanchez?
3B: Amanda Doyle? Shemiah Sanchez?
SS: Amber Serrett
C: Cunningham? Caccamise? Transfer?
DP: ?

Potential Lineups #1 ( This is the lineup I would like to see)

1.) So. Aaliyah Andrews LF
2.) Fr. Taryn Antoine RF
3.) So. Amanda Doyle 3B
4.) So. Sydney Springfield 1B
5.) Sr. Emily Griggs CF
6.) Fr. Shelby Sunseri DP
7.) So. Michal Cunningham C
8.) Jr. Amber Serrett SS
9.) So. Nicky Dawson 2B

Analysis: I like this lineup because it is a good mix between speed and power. Something that I did not notice was that the 2018 team is EXTREMELY YOUNG. Only 2 (Maybe 3, Shemiah Sanchez) upperclassmen might be in the lineup. I think that 2017 Shemiah Sanchez is like 2016 Elyse Thornhill. I think that there are better players on this team. If Shemiah starts, I hope that it is at DP. With everything she goes through, if she could mostly focus on her offense, I think she could be a .320, 5 HR type player. I preferred moving Emily Griggs down in the order because if she was left leading off, we woukd have too many slappers bunched up. However, I could see the slappers being lined up 8-2 like
8.) Taryn Antoine
9.) Nicky Dawson
1.) Emiky Griggs or Aaliyah Andrews
2.) Aaliyah Andrews or Emily Griggs

Pitching Staff:
1A: Carley Hoover
1B: Allie Walljasper
2: Maribeth Gorsuch
3: Shelby Sunseri

This was much easier than the lineup. We are gonna stick with the fire and ice combo of Hoover and Walljasper. However, I think that Gorsuch and Sunseri will get innings to prepare them for 2019

Transfers:
I don't know much about Transfers, but I know that Oklahoma has some candidates. Oklahoma return every starter except one and has a top recruiting class coming in. Alissa Dalton, Vanessa Taukeiaho, and Melissa Olmos. Alissa and Vanessa both got at bats, but did not start that often towards the end of the year. Paige Parker even started taking at bats away from them. There is only one vacant spot in the Oklahoma lineup and them two plus freshmen will be fighting for that spot. Melissa Olmos was a top recruit coming out of High school but got very few to no innings at Oklahoma behind four other pitchers who are all returning.

I think the son does defense and fielding. The pitching coach is visible. I dont recall seeing anyone else. I admit i dont look too hard. I really dont like Oklahoma.

Editing.. what i mean is i dont see any other coaches. Three for oklahoma. Was wondering who could be batting coach.

I think the question for the lineup is going to be 2nd base. Doyle will play third, springfield goes to first,

Right field and catcher are open. Thornhill is rock solid in the field. If she starts hitting she may get the nod.

I posted this on the recruiting board but figured I could post it her too

Taryn Antoine and Shelbi Sunseri were chosen to represent the East team in this high school All American game.

The best players from across the country were selected to compete in this.

The nation’s best softball players in the Class of 2017 have been selected for the Premier Girls Fastpitch High School All-American Game on July 28. The game will be televised on ESPNU.Players on the East and West teams were chosen by a panel of experts with input from USA TODAY High School Sports, OnDeck Softball and Flo Softball.

Congratulations girls, can't wait to see y'all represent LSU soon.

These two are expected to be immediate impact players

Thornhill is just an all around solid athlete,

I would really hope to see Antoine play in RF immediately. She really is extremely dynamic offensively with a lot of raw power. Extremely fast too. When she is on base she needs to be stealing. Antoine had a great senior season, batted a nod below .500 with 12 doubles 6 homers and 3 triples. She stole a lot of bases too.

Also I'm extremely excited about Cristiona Caccamise. She has power to knock the ball out of the park but she usually drives the ball into the gaps. Her swing is a little different but she has been successful on the travel ball scene against good competition. She plays against really good players already.

That right here was what I wrote down as well, it can be scary good. I know it's extremely young but talent itself and just potential is just over the roof.

Really is the perfect blend of power and speed. Doyle, Sunseri, Springfield, Serrett, Antoine, Cunningham can all bring a lot of power to this lineup. Nicky and Andrews are just deadly after putting the ball in play
