One of my favorite genres. I've read Guns of the South and the sequel, How Few Remain. Guns of the South is one of my favorite books - I've forced a few others to read it as well.
My favorite alternate history author though is Eric Flint. The 1632 series (or Ring of Fire anthology) is phenomenal. The first, 1632, might be my favorite book ever. Also loved Flint's 1812: The Rivers of War and 1824: The Arkansas War.
