I do have a kid and we understand this is the situation so we order his food first and let it cool. There is a reason why kid meals will come out in 5-10 mins but your meal will take 20-30 mins. Kids are irrational, but adults should be able to understand the issue and make adjustments. Sorry if you or the OP haven't figured this out. Also, if the plate is hot because of heat lamp, ever thought of asking for another plate? This is called critical thinking skills....concept lost to some it seems.
