I have a coworker who kept her husband's last name just so their daughter wouldn't have a different last name from her.
They were only married 6 months and her husband cheated on her with half of Texas, so I found it puzzling she would want to even keep his last name.

this might be a viable reason as well. I know how much of a pain it is to explain different last names

It happens when the lady can profit from keeping the same last name.
