Answer seems to be in the topic title... take the dog to the "vet" and get some "advice"
Vet office is closed and we live 1.5 hours away from emergency care. We called emergency care and are following their instructions but didn't know if anyone had personal experiences or knowledge

Best thing I got for ya then is to use the google machine. Only guess here is going to be a bee sting or a snake bite.

Sounds like you're doing the right thing already. Follow the advice of your ER vet. Just make sure the pup isn't experiencing any difficulties breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, or pale, tacky gums. If so it's time to leave

Proably a reaction to a bite or sting. Benydryl should help. Make sure no breathing problems. If it doesnt resolve in a couple of days take pup to vet. Good luck.
