Ill educate you. Every single problem that was listed above is the some of the very reasons not to even buy a diesel truck of any brand. Speaking from experience here. I have owned 2 Dodges, A Chevy and a Ford Diesel in the last 10 years. I am now back down to a 1/2 ton King Ranch. Diesels trucks were a never ending pocket book drain on maintenance $150 oil changes, bigger tires cost more, constant problems of some sort, had to have programmers to make them efficient and run correctly, then you have voided warranties, ERG valves, ECU's, DEF cost and issues you name it, just like everyone else posted. Why do that to yourself for no reason? If you pull a 40ft float daily or have some kinda long haul business that's different. But if you are a weekend boat and trailer puller its a waste of money and took me forever to realize that. I'm back down to factory 22.1 MPG gas burner with a $40 oil change and no other maintenance issues. I sat and added the total real cost of owning a diesel over 5 years(length of most loans as a reference) versus owning a gas burner over the same time frame. Real numbers saved payed exactly half of the loan for my Gas Burner. I thought I had to be wrong, had my CPA look at it too, He punched numbers around and agreed I could have saved right at $26K by having a gas burner over the same life of my Diesel same loan terms when you add in real cost of ownership over same period. He had actually told people that before and no one listens, they just want to blow and go and dicck measure with black smoke diesels. It really is insane. Rarely do I find the need to have a diesel to "PULL" anything my gas burner cant. At 26K in savings its hard to justify every owning one.
