Some of my favorite "funny" books were the old Patrick F McManus books.
He wrote in similar style to "A Christmas Story", but his books were about hunting, camping, and fishing as a kid.
If you're interested, start with "A Fine and Pleasant Misery" followed by "They Shoot Canoes, Don't They?" and "Never Sniff a Gift Fish".
