No one actually following the NBA that season expected the 2011 Lakers to go to the Finals. Gasol was done, Odom was flaked out and injured (only played 35 games), Bynum had mentally checked out of the NBA and was injured half the season, and Derek Fisher just kinda stood there most games. They had no defense all season.

lolwut?

Gasol has his best full season as a Laker in 2011, and Lamar Odom played in all 82 games, starting 35 (much like he started 38 and played in all 82 in 2010). Their defensive rating was 6th in the league (4th in the league in 2010).

The Lakers were straight up annihilated by the 2011 Mavs, despite having home court advantage. They were 6 and 7 point favorites in Games 1 and 2, but lost by 2 and 12 respectively. They then lost by fricking 36 in Game 4. No one expected any of that.
