This thread is in part related to the Comey question I was asking you yesterday.

Comey seems to have had a weird perception of himself and others. He felt he could carry on revealing conversations with journalists, but shun similar contact with the President. He had little apparent interest in shutting down classified leaks, and may have even been a source himself.

He aggressively pushed for conclusion to the HRC investigation, but refused even so much as publicly validating that Trump was not personally under FBI investigation. He willingly usurped the AG's role in July sullying the FBI in the process, yet claimed to stand for a "wall" between the Executive Branch and FBI.

While, he emphasized strict independence of the Bureau, he himself had multiple direct and personal conversations with FBI officials when he was at the WH and his friend Mueller was FBI Director.

I hope Mueller can set his long-standing relationship with Comey aside, and clarify for Americans what the FBI Director's role should actually be. Specifically I hope he points out the multitude of problems that Comey's July behavior created for the FBI.

Thoughts?
I've opined that Comey should have been fired at least three times prior to last Tuesday--the July press conference, the October letter, and the day Trump took office (in case Obama was reticent to seem vindictive over what was widely perceived as actions damaging to his party). Obviously the guy was faced with some unique challenges investigating a high-profile person during a campaign for the presidency she was favored to win. But I doubt anyone ever told him that being FBI director was supposed to be easy or simple. I'm sure as with most situations he did a lot of good behind the scenes (our frickups tend to standout more) but in public his handling of this entire thing reads as incompetent, bordering on bizarre--if not worse. Obviously some review of the investigation that's taken place so far, including an examination into Comey and the FBI's decision-making throughout the Clinton investigation, is warranted as part of Mueller's probe.

No concerns about objectivity with Mueller considering his "friendship" with Comey?

Would this fly in a regular court of law or would the prosecutor/counsel be required to recuse himself?

I'm tired of DC treating itself differently.

Best NT74 post ever...objective, thought out, yet not dismissive of probabilities not yet evident...
