I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Dixie, Cripple Creek, and The Weight are among the songs that Levon primarily wrote.

You are wrong. Robbie Robertson (a Canadian, no less) wrote all of those. Though Levon's vocals and drumming had a lot to do with how popular they were. He was the lone southerner in The Band, I think.
