depends on if you trust your diagnostic abilities. TBH, I don't trust those alternator testing stands at auto parts stores. They don't do a very good job testing the diodes in the alternator and that is often the reason for the light to come on.

I went to a well-regarded/professional acquaintance shop; but i feel like the info was straightforward
