I honestly never heard a whip-o-will until I moved to N.Alabama. Two things I heard when I moved to the Owens Cross Roads area....(1) Dueling Banjos at a neighborhood horseshoe tournament on night and (2) Whip-o-wills.

Having never heard either (live)...kinda scared me at first...but now the banjos don't play since they no longer have the tournament...and the whip-o-wills are kinda relaxing.

Heard something the other day that I hadn't heard in a long time (grew up south of Sulphur): A meadowlark. I imagined they all migrated North somewhat.
