Yes. the WWII PTO was bad but trench warfare was really bad.

Yes, but the fact that it is true doesn't detract from WW2s horrors in the Pacific or Stalingrad in anyway.

Yes, worse than any hell men have ever gone through. WWI was miserable and seemingly unending. Imagine being in a trench filled with dead bodies and human waste for literally months. You stand up, you die. Mortar hit, dead. German assault, dead. Mustard gas, dead.
Hospitals were full of soldiers dealing with ptsd even then btw. They just called it shell shock.

If you look at the fighting in the Pacific in WWII, you'll see it's very similar in style to WWI trench warfare. But what sets WWI apart is that unlike the Pacific where battles tended to last days or weeks, in WWI battles lasted months and swallows up men by the hundreds of thousands. And in top of this, imagine this was your world....
