Well, he probably was, technically. It was not statutory rape but it probably was contributing to the delinquency of a minor (if the laws are similar to Louisiana if her father forbade her from seeing the gentleman. Not a sex crime, though, and prosecution is at the discretion of the DA. Usually, the threat of that charge is used to try to force the termination of the relationship rather than to actually prosecute. Saw this happen to a girl when I was much younger. She was 18, he was 17. His parents thought she was beneath their son and would probably bring him nothing but trouble. Not sure she was beneath him but she was a wild one and probably would have brought him trouble in short order.
Age of consent in Louisiana is 17.
