It means that you can't just erase the parts of history you don't agree with. Black history is tied to southern history, the good and the bad of it. You can't erase parts of it without erasing the foundations of the black experience and history. How does the story of slavery get told without the Civil War? It would be like trying to discuss the Civil Rights era without mentioning segregation and Jim Crow.

Erase the monuments of the war, and the war itself. Once that is done, they can further push the narrative that the US never got washed in blood for the sin of slavery. Might as well still be going on.
