Yeah companies are laying fiber in a few places where they have to, but the chances of me getting fiber any time soon is basically zilch
That will not change with or without NN.
A bunch of people in here are talking about the real disease in this industry which is lack of competition. NN is a symptom of that disease.
We really won't fix anything until we deregulate at all levels....federal, state, and local. This might be a pipe dream but adding more regulation certainly won't get us there.

Yup Cable One has no reason to improve their crap service where I live. Ive already noticed them throttling me as I approach my low arse data cap. My whole house is configured for gig down speeds, modem, routers, switches and cat6. I pay for 200 and have been getting 50 tops at some times. With shared crappy cable infrastructure 200 homes sharing the same node will degrade quality of service. With fiber to the door no such issue or at least fiber to more nodes in the neighborhood making the few hundred feet coax not that bad.
I've posted this in another thread but ill do it again.
In Germany, i got 100 down, for 20 euro a month the first year then went to 30. No caps or any other restrictions
In England. 100 down fiber to my door about 25 pounds a month. No cap or any other restrictions.
So here is a great example of all ISPs in England being able to compete.
So for a couple years the major ISPs in the UK started implementing a line rental charge bc no one was using landline phones so they tied your internet to a line rental charge. Vodafone enters the ISP game in England offering fiber to the door at good prices and with no line rental. All of a sudden all the rest of the ISPs got rid of line rental charges. Thus lowering everyone's bill.
Crazy I know.
The place i just moved to in Oklahoma, there is only one player in town which is Cable One. At first you look at some of the prices and think not bad. 100 down for $35 a month then $55 after three months. But here is the catch, that plan has a 300GB data cap
Say you want their 1TB data cap. Well you have to sign up for their gig down plan at $175 a month. That is absurd
