It's too bad Leonard Fournette doesn't play on defense, or else I would totally agree with this thread.

We need defense!

Conventional wisdom says draft a defensive player. I would be OK with that depending on how the draft plays out. If Fournette lands with Carolina it would be devestating for the Saints and NFC South. Any other team in the top 10 is fine to a point.

It is generally conceded there are maybe four Top 10 offensive players, Fournette, O J Howard, John Ross and Mike Williams. Maybe Mahomes or Turbinsky if someone really wantas a QB but they likely fall to 12 -20 range.
Same for Mcaffery or Cook unless some team just goes all in for them.

What if only two offensive players are taken in top 10, Fournette to Carolina and either Howard, Ross or Williams. Then if the 8 defensive players chosen in the top 10 includes Myles Garret, Jamal Adams, Solomon Thomas, Derrick Barnett, Marshon Lattimore, Malik Hooker, Jonathan Allen and Jordan Willis or Taco Charlton the remaining likely first round defensive players are relativley equal or have issues beyond their talent level.

Ruben foster has had recent personal conduct red flags along with a drug history. Take a chance these won't continue?

Haasan Reddick is an enticing athlete. Sow was Stephon Anthony. Reddick did not play in a top conference. Could go eithe rdirection.

Want to go defensive back? OK, Marlon Humphrey,Gareon Corley, Kevin Kiing, Tredavious White, all top talents.
But remember the Saints sordid history with first round DB picks who were either busts or injury prone.

Edge rusher? Are Jordan Willis, Carl Lawson or T J Watt worthy of Top 11 status.

This scenario shows how vulnerble the Saints could be at 11. Unless they see Mahomes or Trubinsky as the heir to Drew the chances of getting the home run pick they need is no better at 11 than it is at 32. No question there are future All Pros in that range but Fournette is more of a sure shot and drafting him keeps him away from the Panthers.

I'll give you credit for a decently well worded argument. I'm not bashing you simply because I disagree with you, but your entire argument is based on the fact that you think Fournette is the second coming. That's your belief, but everyone was very high on Trent Richardson as well. The draft is a crap shoot, and you can't go all in on a player that doesn't fill a need. If you were arguing to trade Ingram + 11 to go up to attempt to get Garrett (would need much more to make that trade), then I'd understand where you were coming from. But Fournette isn't worth it when we don't need a RB. If he falls to 11, MAYBE, but even then I'm hoping that we have other good options available.
