It never occurred to me to be suspicious (I was in my twenties) until one day when McGwire and Sosa were around the 50 HR mark and my dad said to me "I'd bet my life they're on steroids because hitting 40 used to be a great year."

There have been about 250 seasons in which a player has hit OVER 40 homeruns in the 120 year baseball history.
157 came after the 1990.
