Westbrook carried a band of misfits.
People see the way he plays and thinks they have to have him play that way to have a chance. I believe analytics exist that would demonstrate that he decreases his team's chance to win the more ball dominant he is.
Why is a career 31% 3pt shooter taking 7 of them a game? He should be averaging 3 a game. It's as if he has no awareness of his limitations. If he can't even assess himself honestly how can he properly assess the capabilities of his teammates? He's the PG, that's his job.

Ask and you will receive ::::
2016-17 regular season
Thunder are 26-12 when Russ has a usage rate below 40%. They are 20-22, when he's at 40% or above.
Team was MUCH better when he was less involved.

Arbitrary number is arbitrary. Houston is 17-5 when Harden has a usage rate under 30% and 38-22 when he's at 30% or above.
Team was MUCH better when he was less involved.

Which is the point.
The less you have to use your superstar, the more likely you are to have the game in hand. You're confusing correlation and causation.

No we just using 30 to compare like #s. In the games with hi usage some would say oh it's because his teammates were missing shots so Russ had to more. But somehow when Russ misses a shite load of shots the same don't apply to him. And that's why you see the sub .500 record when he don't get his guys involved.

My point wasn't to say that Westbrook shouldn't lead his team in usage. He obviously should, he's their best player. I think there's a usage sweet spot though, don't know what that number is, maybe between 30 and 35. And that number probably should vary from team to team based on the talent of the best player and his teammates. 45%, which is Westbrook's number in the playoffs, is too high.
And I don't even think usage rate is the perfect metric on which to base this discussion but it's the best stat we have at this time.

Again, correlation and causation. Is his usage that high because they're playing poorly or are they playing poorly so his usage is that high?
