Bulbs burn out and break, the smart plugs are more versatile. It's probably splitting hairs with as long as LED bulbs last but I prefer the options of the smart plugs.
Smart bulbs are obviously the easiest solution for fixtures and exterior lights though

you have only one out door bulb controlled by your switch? i think it is the exact opposite. it is better to put a zwave switch on your outdoor lights because usually that one switch controls 1, 2, or 3 groups of flood lights.
