The concept of putting a good hitter #9 to bunch him up with the top of the lineup is the dumbest thing I've ever heard to be frank.

There is 1 stat that no one can disagree with; the #9 hitter will 100% of the time get the least amount of at bats (please dont push the walk doesnt count as AB bull). Why would you put a good batter in a spot to see less pitches? If you want him bunched up with the top of the lineup, put him at the top of the lineup.

Of course there's no way Mainieri says things like that to the media when he moves a slumping hitter down in the line up in order to not destroy the kid's confidence or to not make it appear to be punishing the kid for his struggles.

We all know successful coaches never use statements to the media to give a kid a reason to not get down on himself....
