There's a simple solution here.

This is the simpleton's answer. If everyone had insurance, they'd turn the cameras to something else. Eventually, they'll get you and me for something.

3000 tickets a month are written in my parish, and it is all a revenue grab. It has little to do with public safety.

I hope someone gets pissed and takes the cameras out.

What really pissed me off is that this is some private company that contracts "at no charge" to the governmental entity. The mixing of private business with criminal justice is a huge crock.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Department does not need to put out "traps" to generate more revenue. They are well funded. I can assure you people not having drivers insurance is a bigger issue than them trying to generate revenue.

If they wanted to generate revenue, they could do so without even having to purchase this equipment. I'd rather them catch people with no insurance than worrying about people with expired inspection stickers. When a driver doesn't have insurance and they cause a wreck, it actually affects people.

If you get a ticket in Iberville Parish, it will likely be by one of the "city" police. Plaquemine, White Castle, St. Gabriel, Grosse Tete, Maringouin.

Each town is funded by the parish, the amount they get is based on their population. If you are in the city limits of any of those places, you are more likely going to get a ticket if you are speeding or doing anything they can stop you for. But the Sheriffs department actually has other shite to worry about and don't just send units out to stop people.

If they needed revenue, they could put a unit between plaquemine and white castle as well as right before the Iberville/Ascension line on the westside.. And stop people nonstop.
