My parents didn't let me have video games when I was growing up, my dad said it turns your mind into mush.
I had a Game Boy for car trips and such, but that was it. No consoles until I turned 16 and my parents let me buy a Game Cube with my own money.
Until then I had to create my own fun and actually play outside. Ride bikes, build forts in the woods, hike up the cliffs at the park, set off fireworks, tackle football with no pads, etc.
Do kids even play outside anymore these days?

I actually did shite like READ when I was a kid
My parents bought me encyclopedias and lots and lots of educational books amongst regular books like novels.
You can say its bad parenting all you want but I still got a perfect ACT score and had one of the highest IQs in my entire school district.

Seriously, ours play but are limited to non-violent gaming. No Call of Duty, GTA, etc. T
First off, that sucks
Secondly, they're playing those games. You may not know it, but they are

Video games helped my vocabulary growing up. RPGs had no voice acting and you had to read all dialogue.
