I would venture a guess as to stop potential lead contamination in Bald Eagles and other scavenging birds. Even though they require steel shot if using a shotgun, rimfire rifles seem to be the weapon of choice when dealing with nutria.

Boys at the camp took out 50+ today of those little bastards around the camp. The high water forced them out of there nest and my boys lit them up! I would have loved to participate in the carnage but I was on call..
