re: MLS ratings down, attendance figures even more fictitious than previously thought

How is USSF stopping anyone from doing that?
D1 sanction
Why do we need divisions anyway with a closed pyramid? Did the NFL need a "division 1" label from some governing body back in the 50's/60's?

So USSF doesn't recognize another league as D1. Ok. How does that prevent people from starting their own league, buying players, essentially operating separately from USSF?

Being labeled "minor league" by a county's FA dramatically limits outside investment
Posted on 4/14/17 at 7:23 am to Draconian Sanctions
If you can show that fans will come out, so will the outside investments.
Posted on 4/14/17 at 7:32 am to pvilleguru
Much harder to get fans to come out when you're in a permanently labeled minor league. It's happened anyway in some places. It would be happening in much larger numbers if there were an open pyramid.
But again, why do we need divisions with a closed pyramid?

So you really want this grassroots soccer thing to catch on, but are you even a member of the royal court? You ignored my question earlier.

We already have 3 games sold out 3 months from now. Last year, we have 2 games all season. We have our 3rd game of the year tonight, and we normally start off slow attendance wise because A) Philly is cold AF B) Hockey and basketball usually overlap for a month. We are averaging 1,000 more fans this year than we did last year already.

Again, a century of chances to come up with something viable. Never happened. As a result, you got MLS. Sorry they missed their opportunity. It's good you have USSF and MLS to blame so you don't have to address the reality that most people don't care for what you want.
Do we measure a league or team's success by their P&L or balance sheet? No, of course not. That being said, MLS has good investment, pays players on time, is expanding and so on. It's a success, and that's what bothers you the most. That's why you run here to post this attendance or TV ratings stuff. As if that will suddenly make someone say "that game I enjoyed watching/attending, actually that was bad."

You seem really upset. You're lashing out and making assumptions about me personally. It's a bad look.
I think MLS and USSF are holding back the development of the game in this country and I post reasons why. You're free to disagree but you don't seem to have much actually supporting your position other than general platitudes easily disproved and your feelings which appear to have been hurt.

I'll never understand your hatred for a league that has been around for 20 years that is showing growth

You shite all over MLS for not being grassroots and you're not even a part of your local supporters group for the closest thing to grassroots soccer in NOLA. Dare I say that you're a hypocrite?

Yea, and it makes so little sense. You want the MLS to become the EPL overnight. You have literally no foresight

That's not true at all and shows a complete lack of understanding about what I'm saying on your part.

While ignoring that a lot of the MLS franchises start with a grassroots following of a team. Their ultimate goal is to get an MLS team, either out of that team or a new entity which is really that organization rebranded.
And.. a true D1 and D2 will likely happen once MLS expansion gets to the tipping point. I think they are doing it the right way. By that time, lots of teams will have had the opportunity to grow as a 1D organization and have a following. And it will allow for a D2 TV contract that includes established teams. I think it could be a true 1a and 1b league, as opposed to foreign leagues where you basically have a handful of dominant teams in the top tier and then nothing.
It not the fault of the MLS that every city and suburb in the US didn't start a team a hundred years ago.
Add to that, the development academies in MLS are top notch. Hell, FCD U16s just beat Real Madrids U17s yesterday in Dallas. FCD U18s beat Evertons 19s 5-0 the other day. And there are a lot of other great academies in the MLS.

Cosmos would be an example of doing things the 'other' way, and they couldn't even pay their players last season.

I wonder where the Cosmos would be in an open pyramid though.
And let's not act like MLS teams are immune to failing.

This is the sort of line MLS feeds people but will never, ever happen.
Assuming of course you and I have the same definition of "true D1 and D2".
