Ka-bar, OKC classics, some from Cold Steel, you seriously do not need to spend much because the best knives of this type are simple and made from plain high-carbon steel. You want a knife that can handle rough work, sharpen easily, have some weight to chop with, and with as few parts in the handle as possible.

This is made out a solid piece of bearing steel and cheap enough that you can mess around with it to suit your needs. I'd drill a few holes in the handle to paracord wrap it. Keep it wiped with a little oil.
