I hope the bid spec required the statues and bases come down without damage because they are a valuable part of history and the "replacement costs" are going to be extreme . We dont need no hook and go.

Pretty sure Mitch's intention here is not to remember history. Quite the opposite.
If all goes well with this they'll be "accidently" dropped or demolished. Even then the statues are property of the city, and the city can do with it as they please- as ill advised or destructive as it may be.
