I've found with running shoes, you get what you pay for. I love my Gel-Nimbus by Asics. Bought some last year at $150. Loved them so much that I bought another pair when they went on sale a year later for $100.

Yeah, haha...the price has nothing to do with the quality. Best thing to do is find a pair you like and hunt down last year's model. As long as there aren't huge changes, you can get your running shoes for ~90 bucks all day.
Shoes are different for different people. Go to a running shop and try a bunch on. Not Academy, but a store that actually carries a wide variety of good brands (Brooks, ASICS, Nike, hoka, altra, new Balance, Newton, Mizuno, saucony). You aren't going to find a selection like that without going to a running shop.
