I have been using Ancestry for 10 years or so now. It can be expensive, but certainly worth it for the multitude of records available. I love the hints that pop up based on names and birth/marriage/death details.
I will say that you need to be careful using info from the other member's trees - some folks just put it in because it seems to fit, and don't really research it. If you do the DNA test through them, it will connect you to other member's who share parts of your DNA, and it is pretty accurate.
If you have a lot of military folks in your ancestry, the Fold3 membership can be real helpful. I have used it to read pension files or compiled military service records of ancestors from both Union and Confederate sides.
