Ugh...I'm so conflicted now.

It really does seem to be that the majority of people prefer the charcoal grills to gas, and it now has me leaning towards just going with a simple weber kettle and charcoal starter.

After looking into this some more I've come across smoker boxes for gas grills. I didn't realize these even existed. Anybody have any experience with these, and would they make a gas grill more comparable to a charcoal grill taste wise?

Regardless, thank you all for the suggestions. I may have analysis paralysis, but all of your comments are appreciated.

A cheap Chimney start is all you need. I keep mine stored on the bottom of my weber on the triangle wire shelf. Mine is the 26 inch performer. I love the ash catcher as well.

Nothing I've ever seen accomplishes that. My dad had the old Lava rock things back in the 90s. I think they call them flavor bars now. They're just a place for fat drippings to burn without causing flare ups by hitting the gas burners. But I guess a metal box you put wood chips in could give you some flavor. Seems like a lot of trouble when you could just get a kettle and be done with it.

Been using a Chargriller Pro with side fire box for over 8yrs and highly recommend. Can both grill and smoke on it, has really held up well, I love the cast iron grates and ability to raise the charcoal pan (but a cover). Also get a charcoal chimney, I'll never have a gas grill. Must say I love the OB cause I didn't realize CG made the akorn, may have to get me a second grill.

also meant to ask, once i decide on a grill, any stores that typically sell grills already assembled without charging for assembly? not a problem putting one together, but if someone else does it for free i'll take it.

to hell with charcoal, get a grill, can always get a small charcoal kettle later.

This is literally all you need and you'll be happy as can be. I actually have a members mark grill so i can speak on experience.
