Well regardless of the charges, happy to hear it's behind him, I don't think he has much of anything in the tank. Looked awful at times this season, I think signing him would be similar to what the end of Ed Reed's career was.

You may be right, but if we can get him cheap and another team foot the bill that might be a risk worth taking lol

I suppose but not if there is some presumption that he'll be an every down player and the number one or even number 2 db. He's too washed up to expect a large role.

Agree
Im just kind of curious if he could make the transition to safety. No question your not getting the same guy.

That's not quite how it works.
We'd still owe whatever we agree to pay him. The Jets get a discount on whatever they owe him up to that $6 mil (based on what the new team pays him).
Revis only gets $6 mil unless someone pays him more than that.
So in order for him to play he'll need to be offered more than $6 mil (otherwise he sits on the couch and collects $6 mil without doing any work) or he'll wait until late in the year and go to a team that can win a ring (no reason to sign for cheap early in the year).
Unless he just REALLY wants to play and doesn't care to just sit and collect a check. In that case you might get him cheap.

I don't see us paying anymore than 3 million if we did that and NYJ would pay him another 3 correct? He'd pocket 6 but we'd pay 3. That last part is kind of what i was banking on. Him wanting to just play for another year or 2
Was just throwing out out there. Not a scenario i see happening anyway

Well if he REALLY wants to play now he'd likely sign for the minimum if no one will go over $6 mil, as he'd make $6 mil regardless of whose paying (and maybe to stick it to the Jets a bit too).
But I'm not sure he'd come here to do that. More likely he signs back with NE for the minimum than anywhere else.

I just can't believe there's this much heartache over potentially giving a big contract to a top player at a position of need. Is there a chance his play falls of in 3+ years? Yeah probably so. But hey Brees may not be here anymore by then and a lot of things will be different. The time is now to get this defense fixed and we've got to make moves like this to turn things around quickly.

I was paraphrasing bone from one of his earlier post where he stated corners remain elite into their mid thirties, thirty five is the number he put out there.

I didn't say elite. I never said Butler was elite.
I said they could play at a high level. For someone like Butler he could easily still be a good number 2 corner if he remains injury free.
Revis, with a nagging leg injury, still played at a pro bowl level. His decline is being exaggerated.

Like I said I was paraphrasing. Wasn't trying to take you out of context, I just didn't go back and look.
And bone I don't contribute much on here but read it almost daily. I'm not trying to argue with you, I respect you and your comments on here as much as anyone. I just feel we have waisted a lot of money on over priced FA's. I want to build through the draft like New England, not trade our future for a part time fix.
I wouldn't trade anything more than a third for Butler but hope we don't give more than a 2nd.
